Who We Are

As a PS 199 parent or guardian, you are automatically a member of the PTA and are encouraged to participate in the activities of the PTA. No dues are required and all PTA meetings are open to PS 199 parents and guardians. We are a not-for-profit organization that supports activities at our school and raises funds for key programs and enhancement of the school experience for teachers, staff and children.   The money raised by the P.T.A. is used to supplement supplies, and complement the educational, social and cultural programs for all the children at our school. We coordinate all volunteer efforts and strive to improve communication with our parent body throughout the year. We strive to enhance our community outreach and communication via Yahoo school wide emails with weekly updates and requests for volunteers. We continually look for ways to improve our methods of communication and welcome suggestions from our parents and staff.

Funds are raised through a number of events.  These include a yearlong family giving drive, election bake sale, our gala auction held in March, Scholastic Book Fair, a Walkathon, recycling programs, boxtops and Amazon programs.  Financial contributions from parents have helped improve technology for our teachers, buy books for the library and the classrooms, and enhance our staff education programs to name a few items.  Please support the PTA -- we are seeking 100% contribution to our family giving drive this year.  The PTA relies on your donations to fund many programs in our school. The large number and variety of events is meant to give everyone in the school community ample opportunity to find a way to contribute in his or her own way to the community.  A complete list of PTA committees is available.

General PTA meetings are held monthly throughout the school year. They typically start at 6:30pm and are held in the cafeteria. Childcare is available for school age children and paid for by the PTA.  Please refer to the monthly calendar for a list of the PTA meetings for this year. PTA officers are elected in the spring every year at the May meeting of the general PTA and parents at large are elected at the October meeting of the general PTA.  For our PTA to continue to be successful, we encourage all parents to volunteer in any capacity that they can.
