What Is S.L.T.

The School Leadership Team (SLT) is a team of parents, teachers, staff and the school principal that is mandated by state law to play a significant role in creating a collaborative structure for school-based decision-making. The SLT’s goal is to ensure that children are provided with quality education through increased teacher and parent participation and heightened self-esteem for the entire school community.

The SLT helps develop school-based educational policies and ensures resources are aligned to implement those policies. The School LeadershipTeam writes and reviews the school's Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP). For the PS 199 SLT this has included diverse issues such as curriculum, space utilization and class size in the face of increasing enrollment, and yard safety.

The PS 199 SLT consists of 18 representatives and up to two non-voting alternate members from each of the staff and the parents. Among these members, the Principal, the UFT Chapter Leader, and the PTA President (or his/her delegee) are required members of the SLT. The parent members (except for the PTA president or his/her delegee) are elected to the SLT for two-year terms at the May general PTA meeting each year.

When and Where
SLT meetings are held every other Friday at 7:15 in the library.

Participation on the School Leadership Team
Participation on a school leadership team requires time, dedication, creativity and hard work. While compensating team members adequately for their contributions is not possible, the efforts of team members are recognized with a nominal reimbursement. Each team member who contributes at least 30 hours annually to team activities is offered a $300 stipend. Members are free to accept or reject the stipend .
Parents, legal guardians and persons in parental relation who have children in PS 199 are eligible to serve as a parent member on the leadership team, unless the parent is employed at PS 199 or is a community school board member in school district 3.

The parent elected to the team will represent your interests and your child/children's interests. It is essential that we elect a diverse group of parents that reflect our school community.
