PTA Committees

BE A PART OF THE PS 199 COMMUNITY, WE NEED YOU!!!

Parent Volunteers are essential to ensure the success of PS 199.  There are many ways you can help do just that.  If you have any general questions or concerns, please email Becky Neustadt, Co-VP PTA, @ bbneus@aol.com.  Otherwise, please contact the specific committee.   (see emails below). We need the commitment of every family to help preserve the quality education that every student deserves.   We urge you to become involved any way you can.  Thank you!

Chairs: Jo Tiedeman, Sarah WorthingtonContact: nominatingandelection@PS199pta.org

Overcrowding Committee
The PTA formed this committee, previously called the Political Action Committee (or PAC), to address various political issues affecting the school. The committee has focused for the past couple of years on the growing problem of overcrowding in our school due to the influx of residential development within our catchment, and overcrowding in our community school district, Manhattan, and the city as a whole.  The committee's goals are to continue to explore all possible options, and work with community leaders, the Community Education Council for District 3, representatives of other schools, and officials within the Department of Education to continue to advocate for solutions to this problem that more and more of the city's public schools are facing.Chairs: Sandra Levy, Julie MallinContact: overcrowdingcommittee@PS199pta.org

Family Giving (formerly Pledge Drive)
It is our hope that every family supports our school by giving generously to the PTA's 2009-2010 Pledge Fund.  Parent dollars have made a huge impact on the experience of all of the children in our school. We need that support. Our goal is 100% participation by all families, which would show elected officials and foundations that our community is invested in our school, which in turn will help us when we seek their support. Your donation is important and the entire community appreciates your gift regardless of the amount. Please join this committee to brainstorm new ideas to inspire donations. Chair: Bill Hawthorn, Fundraising Director Contact: familygiving@PS199pta.org

Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is held in the lobby of our school.  Your child's class will have a specified time to shop at the Book Fair. Come and help out during your child's shop day or volunteer to assist customers. Chairs: Denise Iocco, Faye Fasano, Laura SoaresContact: scholasticbookfair@PS199pta.org

School Fair
– In Exploration Stage
We are exploring the possibility of having a PS 199 school fair.  We need volunteers to brainstorm for a possible inaugural event during the 2009-2010 school year.

School Store
We need volunteers to stock the cart (store), “work” the cart at events and help explore and suggest new items to sell.  The PTA school store currently has t-shirts, umbrellas, sweatshirts, and hats for sale with the PS 199 school logo. Come and check it out! The school store is open at every PTA General Meeting. Chairs: Sharon Lustig, Jennifer LeeContact: schoolstore@PS199pta.org

School Tours
We need volunteers to take prospective kindergarten parents on tours of our building.   Dates to be announced.    Join this committee to show your enthusiasm about the school to perspective parents.Chair: Vicki ArancioContact: schooltours@PS199pta.org

Signage
The signs that are up around the school notifying the school body of up and coming events are made by the parents. If you are artistic and would like to help this is a great committee to join.Chair: January StewartContact: signage@PS199pta.org

Stars on Stage

Stars on Stage is a school-wide talent show for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.  It takes place in the spring.  This is kid driven and parent run.  Parents are needed to assist with backstage efforts and with the overall organization of the event.  It is a wonderful community builder and great fun to work on!
Chairs: Becky Neustadt, Sharon Lustig, Mary Beth TooleContact: starsonstage@PS199pta.org

Walkathon
A new fundraiser for PS 199 is the spring Walkathon.   Held for the first time in the spring of 2009,  it was a huge success!  Join in the planning of this fun event for everyone in the family.  Chairs: Elana Weinstein, Paulomi KatziveContact: walkathon@PS199pta.org

Website
The PS199 PTA Website (newly designed) is a great opportunity to share information about our school and the activities taking place.  Website Manager: Karen SegalContact: webmaster@PS199pta.org

Welcoming Committee
Volunteer to be a welcome buddy to a new family. All it takes is maybe one or two phone calls or some emails. This is a great way to make a new friend and make someone feel welcome into the PS199 community.
