Treasurer’s Corner - October 2009  


The PTA is responsible for the school's fundraising. The money received is given to PS 199 so that it can purchase items and services that are otherwise unaffordbable. The Executive Board meets throughout the year to prioritize the needs of the school and to determine how best to allocate your donations.  

With your generous donations and purchases last school year we were able to achieve our 2008-2009 goals. We continued to improve the technology in our classrooms by purchasing 6 new computers (and printers) and 4 new Smartboards. We also supplied books and furniture for the 6 new classrooms, as well as stipends to teachers for classroom set-ups and financial assistance for teacher development and field trips.  

Right now we are in the midst of our Annual Pledge Drive. We hope that everyone can contribute in a meaningful way. 100% participation ensures that PS199 remains the quality school that it is.

To put it bluntly – without your support PS 199 would not be the school we know it to be today.  



Upcoming 2008-2009 Fundraisers

October 2009 Family Giving (formerly Annual Pledge Drive) 
Our annual pledge drive is a critical component of our fundraising activities. Last year over one-third of the total net dollars raised were from this effort. All donations are 100% tax deductible.

November 3 2009 Election Day Bake Sale

March 20 2010 Annual Spring Auction
The Annual Spring Auction is the largest fundraiser of the year. As those who have attended past events can attest, it is a night filled with fun, shopping and charitable contributions.

March 2010 Scholastic Book Fair
Held on the days of the Parent Teacher conferences, parents and children can shop from a huge selection of books displayed in the lobby. Not only does the PTA earn about 25% of the sale proceeds but the library also gets “bonus points” that allows them to procure free books.

May 2010 Walk-For-Knowledge
Last year’s event was a fabulous day. Underwritten by corporate and individual sponsors and your individual pledges we raised 10% of our total 2008-2009 budgeted expenses in this walk-a-thon, our very first!

Box Tops: PS 199 gets $0.10 for every box top coupon collected. You can clip Boxtop coupons from hundreds of your favorite products. 

Amazon Associates: Amazon will pay PS 199 between 4%-10% of all purchases that are directed through the “Amazon widget” located on the front page of our website. Tell your friends and family!
