The PS199 Kindness Garden

The PTA Garden Committee is proud to work with our community of students, educators, and sponsors to revitalize our very own school garden. Here, students cultivate curiosity, responsibility, and a deep connection with nature while growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers. We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom - so our seasonal garden events support our Climate Action and Stewardship Team (CAAST), the Sustainability Squad, and STEM educators in fostering teamwork, environmental awareness, and a sense of accomplishment as our students watch their efforts flourish. We invite you to explore, participate, and share in the growth of this vibrant space. Together, we’re planting the seeds of knowledge, sustainability, and healthy living!

To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.

Our Goals

Gardening

Education

We want to highlight our commitment to learning in this amazing outdoor class-room. That's why we are thrilled to partner with local organizations to support our STEM educators as they set up engaging projects in the garden that build students' relationship to nature.

Looking at Crops

Experience

Our garden offers an unique opportunity to bring new experiences to our children. That's why the Kindness Garden is a children's garden, planted by children every fall and spring. It's our way of teaching and celebrating the cyclical wonders of nature and our environment.

New Growth

Continuity

Continuity of the garden is an important goal for us and guides our choices in what to plant and routines we develop. Just as our our community changes and grows, we want our garden to grow with us too, and to bring joy and to delight to us every season.
