Elective Offices

PTA officers comprise the PTA Executive Board. PTA officers are responsible for running the day-to-day affairs of the PTA and communicating with members to inform them and hear their concerns. For a PTA to function, the PTA membership must elect three mandatory officers (president, treasurer, and recording secretary) before the end of the school year.

All PTA members with no conflict of interest restrictions are eligible to run for office. PTA officers are elected to serve a one-year term, beginning July 1 and ending June 30 of the following year, with a maximum of two consecutive terms, unless there is no interested candidate willing to serve. All PTA offices must be held by a single person, unless co-officers are allowed in the bylaws. Co-officers must run together as a slate in order to serve together. See Chancellor's Regulation A-660 and the PS199 PTA Bylaws for more details.

The School Leadership Team (SLT) functions as the management team of the school, representing the school’s professional staff, parents and community. The school's principal, the PTA President, and the teacher's union chapter leader are mandatory members of the SLT. There are seven SLT seats for parent members. All PTA members are eligible to run for an open seat. SLT members are elected to serve a two-year term, beginning July 1 and ending June 30 of the following year. See Chancellor's Regulation A-655 and the PS199 SLT Bylaws for more details.

The PTA President shall be one of the eligible signatories on checks.

The PTA President is a mandatory member of the SLT and a member of the district/borough Presidents’ Council. He/she is responsible for attending meetings of the SLT and the Presidents’ Council regularly and communicating to the PTA membership information discussed at those meetings. â€‹If a PTA president is unable to serve on the SLT and/or the Presidents’ Council, he/she must nominate a designee to serve in his/her stead.

PTA Parents-at-Large

The PTA Parents-at-Large (PALs) represent the general membership in the PTA Executive Board. PALs assist in all PTA Executive Board functions and shall serve on at least one committee. PALs also serve as communication liaisons between Class Parents and the PTA Executive Board.

There can be up to four PAL positions open for the spring election, with the remaining five PAL positions open for the upcoming fall election.
